How to Make a Screen Recording and Edit It

Recording your screen is only half the job — the useful part is what happens after, when you actually trim, clean up and export the recording into something worth sharing. Here's how that workflow actually works.

Recording your screen

From recording to a real editing project

This is the part worth understanding clearly: once you finish recording, opening it in Video Studio doesn't just attach a file for playback — it turns the recording into a normal Video Studio project. If you recorded your camera alongside your screen, that becomes a separate camera-bubble overlay clip, automatically positioned in a corner of the frame, on its own track. From that point, it's an ordinary Video Studio project — the same trim, transform, overlay and audio tools apply to it as to any imported clip.

Editing the recording

Trim dead air from the start and end, split out a section you want to remove, and use Silence Removal to automatically detect and cut quiet stretches (with small fades so the cuts don't click) — genuinely useful for a recording where you paused to think mid-sentence. Audio Enhance can clean up your microphone track with EQ, compression and noise-gate/normalize processing. Add text overlays or subtitles if you want callouts or captions.

Exporting

Export the finished edit to WebM or MP4. Free exports up to 720p; 1080p and higher are part of the Pro plan.
